Below is a free list of negative calorie foods, but first let's take a look at what that means. A calorie is a measurement of heat, hence there can never be a negative calorie. So when people talk about negative calorie foods, they simply mean foods that are so low in calories that it takes more energy to eat and digest than the food itself.
For example, if you consider cold water to be food, it is obvious that it has no calories.. It contains no calories at all and the body needs the energy to bring it up to blood temperature. So every time we drink a glass of cold water, we burn some calories and lose some weight. But there are very few that are edible. Most of the foods on the list don't actually consume more calories than they provide, or if those effects are minor... the same energy we expend even when we're not doing anything. That's why people call it negative calorie food.
Negative calorie foods are more appealing to anorexic patients. A negative calorie diet will obviously lead to prolonged starvation, and nutrient depletion can occur surprisingly quickly. The calories burned usually come from the muscles and the result is laziness and waste.
A healthy way to consume a negative calorie diet is to do a fast or detox. This is something you can do for one to three days after a vacation or other times when you are on a high diet. As long as you are healthy, this can be a good way to cleanse your system. Before using it, it is best to speak with a doctor.
If you decide to use a negative calorie detox, keep the following in mind:
1. It is never a good idea to consume large amounts of one type of food, especially fruits. Many meals include ingredients that, if ingested in excess, might be dangerous. For example, the acid in grapefruit and pineapple can damage the gastric mucosa. Other foods put an unnecessary burden on the liver or can cause diarrhea. So try to consume all different foods in small quantities.
2. Don't spend the whole day eating and drinking. It will just swell and feel sick. If you're only doing this for a few days, you shouldn't be very hungry. Schedule four or five salad meals each day and give your digestive system a second break.
3. You feel fuller if you eat slowly and chew well. In such a case, you also consume more calories. So if the food can be eaten raw, it is more effective than cooking. Foods like carrots and beets are also more satisfying if you grate them.
4. Schedule time when you don't have important responsibilities. In other forms of fasting or detoxification, you may experience some uncomfortable symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, depression, and irritability. If these become severe, stop the dose and see a doctor.
5. Plan to gradually return to normal eating after the detox is complete.
